Tasting Notes

Sunshine and minerals come together in this single vineyard wine. Knockout texture and flavor that oozes white peach, lime leaf, honeysuckle, apricot and stone. Long and delicious. A milestone for Washington, no, for American Riesling. – Winemaker, Charles Smith

91 Points – Jeb Dunnuck (v2016)

A white I’d wager is up with the finest bottlings of this variety in the New World, the 2016 Riesling Evergreen Vineyard was fermented and aged all in demi-muids. It’s a racy, bone-dry Riesling that has obvious minerality as well as lots of citrus and tropical fruit, medium body, racy acidity, and a clean finish. It’s going to age gracefully.

Vineyard – Evergreen (100%)

100% Riesling, 13.0% Alcohol
(Washington State White Wine, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley Appellation)
Planted in 1998 by Jerry Milbrandt, the vineyard rows lie along a stretch of steep cliffs above the Columbia River in the Ancient Lakes AVA. A cooler site due to river influence, the nitrogen-poor soils are composed of fragmented basalt, gravel silt, and caliche deposited during ice age floods. This site produces fruit with sublime mineral character and great acidity, a balance that winemakers adore.

Vintage

2017 was a fantastic year for making wine with a cool spring and a fair amount of rain. Washington had an ideal spring for healthy vines. The moderate temperatures during summer were perfect for small clusters and yet delayed veraison into the fall where we had a consistent ripening season that allowed us to hang the fruit for perfect tannin and flavor without losing acidity or acquiring too much alcohol. Overall it was a vintage to remember.
